How to cultivate peony

illumination

Peonies do not like strong light and prefer semi-shaded environments . Usually, they can only receive direct sunlight in winter, and they need to be properly shaded in spring and the following two seasons.

Peony is a long-day plant , and the duration of light exposure directly affects its flowering period. Long light exposure will promote early flowering, while short light exposure will delay the flowering period, but will increase side buds and the number of flower buds.

Moisture

Although the peony is drought-tolerant to a certain extent, it is a moisture-loving plant . However, since it is very afraid of stagnant water, you must pay attention to the amount of water you water it.

Generally, the amount of watering should be increased during the growing period, preferably once every three to four days. If there is insufficient water, it will enter a dormant state during the growing period, and the root ball quality will deteriorate due to drought.

Fertilization

Before planting the peony, you can use the decomposed fertilizer cake as the base soil fertilizer and mix the fertilizer cake with the soil evenly. When it grows new leaves, you can add urea and compound fertilizer.
Generally, the fertilization cycle is seven days, and the two are used alternately. After the flowering period, potassium-containing fertilizer liquid is applied, and compound fertilizer containing nitrate nitrogen can be selected in winter.

temperature

Peonies prefer slightly cooler temperatures, and the temperature difference between morning and evening should not be too large, otherwise it will reduce the growth quality. Generally, the suitable temperature during the day is between 15 degrees and 20 degrees, and the night can be between 7 degrees and 8 degrees .

If it is greenhouse cultivation, the maximum temperature should not exceed 22 degrees, and the minimum temperature should be above 0 degrees to avoid frostbite and death of plants.

Things to note when growing peony

1. Peonies like moisture, but are afraid of waterlogging and drought. They cannot lack water during planting, but they should not be too wet. At the same time, avoid pouring water on the leaves, otherwise it will cause diseases.

2. Peonies should avoid strong direct sunlight, and potted plants should be placed in a shady and refreshing environment. However, drought, waterlogging, smoke and dust pollution should be avoided, and the pot soil and surrounding environment should be kept moist at all times.
