How to water orchids correctly

First, see dry and wet

The "see" in "see dry and wet" means what we call seeing.

Its literal meaning is that we can observe the dryness and wetness of the planting material with our naked eyes. If it is dry, water the orchid. If it is wet, it means that the orchid is not short of water.

Place a few large volcanic rocks on the orchid's planting material, and water the orchid by observing the changes in the color of the volcanic rocks. Use the rocks flexibly, extending the watering time appropriately in spring and winter, and shortening the watering time appropriately in summer and autumn.

Second, alternate between dry and wet

The "间" in "间干间湿" means interval. It means that when we water orchids, we should alternate between dry and wet, and there needs to be a certain interval between dry and wet. It is also "see dry and wet" in the full sense.

For example, in spring, the air is relatively humid, the temperature is relatively low, and the water evaporates slowly. Each time you water the plant material, it will stay moist for a relatively long time. During the drying process of the plant material, there must be a certain drying time for the plant material. Let the plant material alternate between dry and wet, and have a corresponding interval time.

Third, gradually dry and wet:

The "gradual" in "gradually dry and gradually wet" means slowly. Most of the orchid planting materials have a good granular structure, which can both drain water and have a good moisturizing effect.

So when watering orchids, you need to let the water flow at multiple angles and slowly flow through the planting material, so that the planting material can slowly absorb enough water.

Then in the later stage, the moisturizing effect will be high and the planting material will slowly dry up, which can create a moist soil environment without allowing water to accumulate in the planting material.

1. Spring watering

The temperature in spring is mild and the air humidity is high. When watering orchids, there should be a relatively balanced balance of dryness and wetness, which is the so-called "alternating dryness and wetness".

The planting material is in a state of obvious dry-wet separation. Each time it is watered, the surface of the planting material dries, which prolongs the watering time.

2. Watering in summer

The temperature in summer is relatively high, and the water in the soil and leaves evaporates greatly. When watering, it is "water when the soil is dry and water when the soil is wet".

That is to say, we can water the orchid on the day when the surface planting material is dry. When the orchid planting material is dry, it is necessary to spray it to replenish moisture. It is best to water it when the sun sets and the planting material cools down.

3. Watering in Autumn

In autumn, the temperature difference between the north and the south is obvious. The temperature in the north has dropped relatively, but the air is dry, so watering can continue the same way as in summer. However, the temperature in the south is high and the air is dry.

So when watering, it is best to water once in the morning and evening every day, and then spray it once in the morning and evening.

4. Watering in winter

In winter, many orchid lovers in the north need to move their orchids to indoor rooms with heating. The indoor ventilation is poor and the temperature is not high. When watering, the flower soil should be "alternated dry and wet" with obvious intervals between dry and wet.
