Start with the label
Seed packets and trusted horticultural references should control sowing depth, temperature and timing. Use a clean, free-draining seed-starting mix rather than heavy garden soil.
Moist, not saturated
Pre-moisten the mix, allow excess water to drain and keep the root zone evenly moist. Constant saturation reduces oxygen and encourages damping-off problems.
Light after emergence
Move seedlings into strong light after germination and keep fixtures at the distance recommended by the manufacturer. Increase airflow gradually.
SEEDSUN guides are general educational information. Climate, cultivar, soil, label directions and local regulations can change the right answer for a specific garden.
