How to propagate the hanging bamboo plum

Cutting propagation

Cutting propagation is a method of propagation that can be carried out for most plants, and the hanging bamboo plum is no exception. For Pleistocene strychnifolia, cutting propagation is the easiest, most basic and most commonly used method of propagation. It can be carried out throughout the year, but the temperature in spring and autumn is most suitable for cutting propagation.

Specific method: Cut the main stem or side branches of a well-growing Prunus mume plant as cuttings. The length should not be too long, eight to ten centimeters is best. After simple treatment, it can be directly inserted into the potting soil prepared in advance. The soil matrix should be garden soil mixed with organic fertilizer or pebbles. The length of the branches buried in the soil can be two to three internodes. Keep the soil moist and it will take root in about seven to ten days.

Generally speaking, three cuttings and four branches are enough for reproduction. After they are planted, they should be placed in a cool place to allow them to take root. After small new shoots grow, they can be moved to a bright place for cultivation. Fertilization should not be too frequent. Liquid fertilizer water once a month is sufficient for its growth needs. When the new stems grow to a certain length, they should be pinched to help them branch out, which is beneficial to the beauty of the plant shape.

Propagation by division

In addition to propagating the hanging bamboo plum by cuttings, it can also be propagated by division. For the hanging bamboo plum grown in pots, when it grows to maturity and its branches and vines cover the entire pot, it can be propagated by division when it needs to be repotted in spring to reduce damage. Take the thriving mother plant out of the pot, cut off the thicker shoots with roots, plant them in other pots, and wait for them to grow new branches. You can also choose to place the mother plant pot in an open space with soil, wait for the stem nodes to touch the ground and take root, then cut them off and replant them in the pot for cultivation.

The hanging bamboo plum has strong growth ability. Whether it is propagated by cuttings or division, it is relatively simple, easy to use and easy to maintain. In addition to ordinary potted cultivation, the hanging bamboo plum can also be hung in the air and let its branches hang down, which is very beautiful.
