Precautions and pruning methods for red snowflake cultivation

Many people like to grow blue snow flowers . In fact, you can also grow a pot of red snow flowers. It can also be propagated by cuttings, and it is not difficult to maintain. It can bloom in summer and autumn. Its leaves are slightly larger than those of blue snow flowers, and its stems and leaves are thicker. Its vitality is also very tenacious. Let’s talk about the precautions and pruning methods for growing red snow flowers.

1. Suitable environment

(1) Red snowflake likes to grow in a warm environment and cannot tolerate severe cold. The suitable temperature for its growth is around 25℃.

(2) In summer, it can withstand high temperatures of around 35°C. In winter, the temperature must be controlled above 7°C. If the temperature is too low, frost damage will easily occur.

2. Soil requirements

Red snow flower likes to grow in loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil, so the soil for potting can be mixed with leaf mold, garden soil and coarse sand.

3. Lighting requirements

(1) Red Snow Flower loves light and is also relatively shade-tolerant. It can generally be placed in a place with sufficient light for maintenance.

(2) When potted, it needs to be exposed to sunlight for several hours every day, but in the hot summer, it should not be exposed to strong sunlight and needs appropriate shade.

(3) In the cold winter, more sunlight can be exposed to the sun. Adequate light is conducive to the healthy growth of red snow flowers.

4. Watering requirements

During the growing season, the red snow flower has a relatively large demand for water. In addition to regular watering, you should also spray water around the red snow flower plants to help keep the environment moist. However, in winter, you need to reduce watering and keep the potting soil dry.

5. Fertilization requirements

Red snow flower requires a relatively large amount of fertilizer during its growth process. Spring and summer are its peak growth periods, during which time fertilizer can be applied once every 7 days, usually liquid fertilizer.

6. Pruning matters

(1) After the red snow flower blooms, you need to trim the remaining flowers and wait 20-30 days for it to bloom again.

(2) The old branches of Red Snow Flower cannot be more than 2 years old, so they can be pruned in autumn every year. During this period, the black branches can be cut off, and the only thing left is to keep the thick green branches that grow that year.

7. Change the pot in time

You can repot the red snow flower plant in spring. During this period, you can take out the red snow flower plant, and after proper root pruning, transplant the red snow flower plant into a new pot for cultivation.

8. Pest control

(1) The rhizomes of red snowflakes are easily damaged by root knots. Usually, before potting, the soil can be disinfected to help reduce the incidence of pests.

(2) Red snowflakes are also prone to scale insects. Therefore, when insect pests are discovered, they can generally be sprayed with 1000 times diluted 25% phosmet emulsifiable concentrate for prevention and control.

9. Proper pruning

(1) Check the red snowflake plants regularly and remove any yellow or withered flowers. This encourages the plant to put energy and nutrients into new growth and the formation of flower buds.

(2) If the branches of the red snowflake plant grow too long, you can prune them moderately. Use pruning shears to trim branches to the desired length, keeping the plant compact and neat.

(3) If the shape of the red snow flower is uneven or too lush, shaping and pruning can be performed to promote balanced growth of the plant. As needed, remove overly long branches and shape side branches and the appearance of the plant.

(4) Red snowflakes usually bloom from spring to autumn. It is best to prune after the flowering season is over to avoid affecting the formation of flower buds for the next season.
