As a common bonsai, Podocarpus has won the favor of many bonsai enthusiasts for its tenacious vitality and easy care. However, there is a common misunderstanding among many flower lovers that Podocarpus requires a lot of water. This leads many people to water frequently, which results in the leaves of the Podocarpus turning yellow and eventually dying from over-wetness. So how to care for and water Podocarpus? 1. Watering Podocarpus prefers a slightly dry soil environment and should follow the watering principle of "better dry than wet". Water every 2 to 3 days in spring and autumn. In summer, water is needed every day and spray for moisture in time because water evaporates quickly. In winter, reduce the frequency of watering and water in time according to the dryness of the soil, usually when the leaves are slightly wilted and the soil surface turns white. 2. Fertilization techniques Before repotting or planting, apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer to enhance soil fertility. Before germination in spring, decomposed organic fertilizer or high-nitrogen compound fertilizer can be applied. In autumn, the main fertilizer is decomposed organic fertilizer, supplemented with appropriate amounts of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and foliar fertilizers are sprayed during the growing season. The recommended frequency of fertilization is every 15 to 20 days. 3. Lighting management Podocarpus prefers plenty of sunlight, but can also adapt to semi-shady environments. During the growth period, sufficient light must be ensured to maintain a good tree posture and avoid long-term dark environment which will lead to poor growth. It should receive moderate sunlight in summer, but avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and move to semi-shade when appropriate. 4. Soil selection Podocarpus is suitable for loose, breathable and well-drained fertile sandy soil , and avoids using heavy clay soil. It is recommended to use a mixture of 5 parts garden soil, 3 parts coarse sand and 2 parts coal soil. 5. Notes Avoid using large amounts of water directly for watering; instead, water slowly along the edge of the pot until the soil is completely moistened. Fertilization should follow the principle of "small amounts of fertilizer and frequent application". Each fertilization can be carried out simultaneously with watering to promote root absorption and prevent plant damage caused by excessive fertilizer. In short, through these meticulous breeding methods and precautions, we can ensure that Podocarpus grows healthily and shows its best condition.
