Phalaenopsis cultivation methods and precautions

Phalaenopsis cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

Phalaenopsis cannot be grown in soil. The planting cups bought from the market are filled with some moss, which can fix the roots of the plant in the planting cup to make it stable. The aerial roots can obtain water and nutrients from the air, so it cannot be grown in ordinary soil.

2. Light

Phalaenopsis has relatively low requirements for light and cannot be placed in direct sunlight. Generally speaking, it needs to block 50% to 60% of the light for maintenance so that it can grow normally, so you can just place it in scattered light at home.

3. Temperature

Phalaenopsis has relatively high temperature requirements, and the temperature range is approximately between 15-28 degrees. It will perform poorly below 10 degrees, for example, the flower color will become dull. It will cause frost damage below 5 degrees, and it will also grow poorly above 32 degrees.

4. Water

During the growing period, the air humidity must be high enough, but its planting pot and sphagnum moss only need to be kept slightly moist. There is no need to water too much. If the sphagnum moss accumulates too much water, it will cause root rot.

5. Fertilization

Phalaenopsis has relatively sophisticated requirements for fertilizer. It likes fertilizer but not concentrated fertilizer. It is recommended to purchase special fertilizer for Phalaenopsis when caring for it.

6. Notes

The flowering period of Phalaenopsis is relatively long, and the overall flowering period can reach 5-6 months, so when caring for it, you must pay attention to constant temperature, constant humidity, and proper ventilation, so that its flowering period can be extended as much as possible.

After flowering, its flower arrow can be shortened. It has a characteristic that is its hidden bud. There is a hidden bud at the bottom of the scales of the flower arrow. This hidden bud will germinate and lead to a second flowering, which can greatly extend the flowering period. The flowering period of Phalaenopsis is related to the size of its flower. Generally speaking, larger flowers have shorter flowering periods, while small flowers with waxy petals have longer flowering periods.
