How to plant and manage old honeysuckle stumps?

Honeysuckle is a familiar Chinese medicinal material . It can also be grown as a potted flower indoors, which looks very beautiful. So how do you plant and manage old honeysuckle stumps? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soil

Honeysuckle has a relatively developed root system and strong adaptability. It is not very demanding on soil and is relatively easy to survive. The soil can be ordinary garden soil with a small amount of sand. The tree stump has a perfect shape, natural transition of branches, and complete root system. It can be directly placed in a purple clay pot, porcelain pot, etc.

2. Lighting

Honeysuckle should be placed in a sunny place with good light and strong photosynthesis, so that the branches will grow fast and be more likely to bud and bloom. Bathed in sunlight, the delicate branches will become lignified faster. When the sunlight is strong at noon, move it back indoors and it will grow rapidly.

3. Moisture

When planted in places with sufficient light, such as windowsills and balconies, watering must be appropriate. Always observe the dryness of the soil in the pot. Do not wait until it becomes dry to water it. Water it when it is slightly dry, and water it thoroughly. It cannot be too dry, but water accumulation must be prevented. Too much water will cause the leaves to turn yellow.

4. Fertilization

Before the flower buds form on old honeysuckle stumps, you can apply less nitrogen fertilizer and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. This can promote the formation of flower buds and effectively increase the number of flowers. Appropriate application of nitrogen fertilizer during the period when branches stop growing and during the bud formation period can make the flowers bloom large and bright.

5. Plastic surgery

Honeysuckle can be planted in old pots, and can be dwarfed and pruned to cultivate thick trunks and short branches. During the growing season, you can remove vigorous branches and buds, pinch off strong branches, and prune long branches and keep short branches. When the branches sprout out to about 5 cm, use 700 to 1000 ppm paclobutrazol by spraying or watering for several times to inhibit the vigorous growth of stems and vines and dwarf the tree shape.

6. Ventilation

When caring for old honeysuckle stumps, they should be placed in a well-ventilated and air-permeable place. It is best not to place them too deep in the house or in a corner, and do not place them together with other potted plants. They must be placed in a well-ventilated place like a windowsill.
