Growing directions
Root stem-tip cuttings or plant container specimens in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, average to fertile soil in partial shade to full sun in cool spring or fall weather; twinspur is a South African relative of snapdragons that produces delicate, open-faced, two-lipped flowers of soft to vivid pink, salmon, coral, or white with characteristic twin spurs projecting backward from the base of each flower — a charming, cottage-garden character of the individual flowers. Plants produce a loose, mounding, spreading habit with abundant bloom in cool spring and fall weather and are self-cleaning (no deadheading required). Like bacopa and lobelia, they may go semi-dormant in peak summer heat and should be trimmed back slightly and watered through the worst heat to encourage fall rebloom. Excellent in hanging baskets, window boxes, and container edges. 'Coral Belle', 'Elegance Series', and 'Whisper Series' are widely grown. Perennial in zones 7–9 where winters remain above 25°F.
