Cultivation methods and maintenance matters of old rose piles

Cultivation method of old rose piles

1. Cleaning: The old rose stumps you buy have relatively developed root systems and branches and leaves. It is recommended to first clean the soil at the roots. You can remove the soil at the roots preliminarily, then rinse them with clean water, and try to remove the soil at the roots.

2. Pruning: Next, what you need to do is to cut off some aging rhizomes and some dead roots at the roots, and then remove some excess branches and leaves on the old rose stump, mainly removing diseased branches and dead branches.

Pruning Note: If your rose has many leaves, it is recommended to cut off some of the older leaves and leave some tender leaves and buds. This can prevent your old roses from falling due to excessive leaf consumption when the root stems are not well developed.

3. Disinfection: After trimming the roots of the roses, it is recommended to soak the roses in a diluted solution of carbendazim. Generally, soak them for about three hours and then take them to a cool place to dry. The main purpose is to disinfect the wounds of the roses.

4. Planting the soil: Next, you can plant the roses in the soil. Although roses are not delicate plants, in order to promote root growth, it is better to use breathable and loose sandy soil. Also, pay attention to maintaining the moisture of the soil. It should not be too dry, otherwise it will be difficult to grow new roots.

5. Fertilizer: Because the rose is an old stump and the roots have been treated, when fertilizing, during the period of promoting rooting, water it with diluted liquid fertilizer. This way, the roots are relatively easier to absorb. Otherwise, if the fertilizer concentration is too high and the roots are not developed enough, it is easy to burn.

Pruning old rose bushes

1. Prune the roses when their flowering period is about to end. Because some flowers will wither as they wither, pruning at this time can not only maintain the beauty of the roses, but also allow the roses to have sufficient nutrients to grow and develop after the flowers wither.

2. When pruning the dead flowers, you need to prune them all. If there are some yellow leaves, pull them all out. At the same time, do not damage the good flowers and leaves. So in order to avoid damaging the good parts, it is best to use some small scissors during the pruning process, so that it can be handled more easily without worrying about damaging the roses.

3. During the pruning process, it is also important to note that the pruning tools need to be sterilized, especially rusty scissors cannot be used, otherwise, it will cause infection on the wounds of the roses, just like people will get tetanus when they are scratched by rust, so everyone must pay attention.

4. In addition to the above pruning methods, you can also prune roses in spring and summer when they are growing vigorously, but the pruning should be done on the rhizomes of the roses and the long branches on the top. By pruning them, the roses can get more nutrients and bloom more vigorously. It also helps the lignification ability of the roses to become stronger, and then they will soon form old stumps.

Precautions for maintenance of old rose piles

Old rose stumps are suitable for planting in fertile and loose soil, and using slightly larger flowerpots. You can put some fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium in the pots, such as eggshells, fermented bean dregs, soybeans, fish scale fertilizer, lobster shells, etc., so that it is easier for it to produce large flower buds.

Old rose stumps like a humid environment, and the soil needs to be kept moist during the growth period, but water accumulation is not allowed. If there is root rot, replace the soil in time and soak the roots of the old rose stumps in carbendazim before replanting. Ventilate frequently during maintenance.
