This is how you grow succulents in spring so they can grow out of the pot!

Cleaning up after wintering

You may have discovered that succulents may become shriveled and leggy due to frostbite and lack of light in winter, and by the time the spring warms up, they are only half alive.

Don’t lose confidence in your succulents at this time. Remove the frozen "mature" and dead leaves, move the succulents from indoors to the balcony, let them bask in the sun and warm up, and they will be "revived".

Pest control

Spring is also the time when insects are most active. Scale insects, aphids, and root mealybugs are common pests in succulent cultivation.

At this time, you just need to use your hands and turn over both sides of the succulent leaves to see if there are any black spots or white spots. Once found, sweep them away immediately or prick them to death with a needle. In serious cases, use a 1:1 solution of vinegar and water to clean the succulent.

Sunbathing

There is a lack of light and sunshine for several months in winter, and succulents are in desperate need of sunlight! ! ! How and how long is appropriate to sunbathe?

The spring sunlight is not too strong, with a temperature of around 15-20 degrees, so succulents can be placed on the balcony to dry in the sun. However, in some areas such as Wuhan and other southern cities, the succulents need to be covered when the temperature is particularly high.

Watering

In conjunction with the warm and humid climate in spring, there is no need to be particularly deliberate about watering succulents. Frequent watering will cause the petals of succulents to become waterlogged or grow too tall.

You can water the succulents about once every 5-10 days according to their specific conditions, following the principles of "small amounts and multiple times" for seedlings, "intermittent watering" for mature plants, and "watering thoroughly once" for old plants.

Cuttings and repotting

Spring is the best time for succulent cuttings. Both poorly growing and vigorously growing succulents can be replanted.

Succulents that just don’t grow big can be dug out and the excess roots cleaned off. They will grow better and better after being put back into the flowerpot.

The heads of overgrown succulents can be cut off, and the flower heads, leaves and remaining stems can continue to grow into succulents!
