How to grow gardenia

How to grow gardenia

1. Soil

Gardenia is an acidic plant, and acidic soil is more suitable for its growth. Therefore, when growing it, you should test the pH value of the soil frequently. A value greater than 7 means it is alkaline. If the soil becomes alkaline, measures must be taken. You can mix leaf mold into the soil, or you can add a few drops of vinegar. These things can change alkaline soil into acidic soil.

2. Lighting

Gardenia is a semi-shade plant and requires a certain amount of light. It is necessary to ensure six hours of diffuse light exposure every day and avoid direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause its leaves to turn yellow and flower buds to fall off, so be sure to pay attention.

3. Temperature

The temperature suitable for the growth of gardenia is above 15 degrees and below 25 degrees. When the temperature is high, move the gardenia to a cool place, or spray it with water to cool it down. When the temperature is low, pay attention to keep it warm. If it is a potted plant, you can move it to a warm place. If you plant gardenias outdoors, you can cover them with straw, wrap them with plastic wrap, etc. to help them keep warm.

4. Watering

Gardenia likes moisture and does not like waterlogging, so you need to water it more often, but the amount of water should not be too much. It is best to water it two to three times a week. Do not let water accumulate in the pot every time you water it. Its roots are fleshy, and stagnant water will affect the roots' absorption of nutrients and affect its growth. In addition to watering, you should also spray the branches and leaves of gardenia with water every morning and evening. The finer the water droplets, the better, as they are easier to absorb.
