How to remedy the problem of succulent leaves falling off when touched?

Succulent plants come in a variety of shapes and colors. Some look like jade, some look like flowers, some look like animals , and some look like stars, which are pleasing to the eye. They are easy to grow and will thrive as long as they are provided with sufficient sunlight and moderate amounts of water. However, a very common problem with succulents is leaf falling. So how to remedy the problem when the leaves fall off when touched? Let’s take a look below.

1. Overwatering

People who grow succulents must not be too diligent and water the soil frequently. This is because the stems and leaves of succulents themselves contain a lot of water. Therefore, once the moisture content in the soil is too high, it will stimulate the roots, causing the leaves to become shriveled and thin, and sometimes even cause root rot, which will affect the leaves and cause them to fall abnormally one after another.

Therefore, we need to learn to water properly in our daily lives, and prefer dryness to wetness. And when watering too much, we must move the potted plants to a cool and ventilated place as soon as possible, and expose them to more sunlight. This way, the excess water can evaporate as soon as possible, minimizing the negative effects caused by the accumulated water and continuously affecting the plants.

2. Root rot

Although there are many factors that cause root rot in succulents, as long as the plants have root rot, you must change the pot and soil as soon as possible, otherwise the diseased area will continue to spread and affect other healthy roots.

Moreover, in the season of repotting soil, it is necessary to make timely and correct treatment for the diseased parts. Usually, all the diseased parts need to be trimmed off, and they also need to be soaked in carbendazim or potassium permanganate aqueous solution for sterilization and disinfection.

3. Black rot

This symptom mainly occurs in the hot summer. It is because the leaves of succulents are contaminated with a large amount of water and are affected by the high temperature and exposure to the outside world, resulting in black water rot symptoms.

Therefore, in the face of such a situation, in addition to taking precautions in advance to avoid spraying water mist on the leaves when watering, we also need to place the potted plants in a ventilated place as soon as possible after watering to evaporate excess water. If the succulent plant has already developed black rot, the diseased flower heads must be pinched off as soon as possible.

4. The potting soil is not breathable

The quality of the soil is closely related to the health of the roots of succulents. Therefore, once you find that the soil is clumped over a large area and the drainage and air permeability are relatively poor, you should immediately replace the potting soil with new one and transplant the succulents into loose, breathable, fertile substrate soil to avoid a series of negative effects.

5. Plant dormancy

Different varieties will appear in different states in different environments at different seasons, so when the plant enters a dormant state, do not move it easily. Otherwise, sudden changes in the external environment will cause a large number of leaves to fall off. It is also necessary to block negative factors such as strong light and exposure to the sun and keep them close to succulent potted plants.

6. Poor ventilation

The ventilation and air permeability of succulents are mainly affected by natural factors and the plants themselves, so in addition to using external manpower to promote air circulation, we can also check the density of the branches of succulents from time to time. If you find that some forks are too dense, you need to trim them appropriately to remove some relatively thin or messy forks.
