How to grow daylily in pots

Planting conditions

Daylily does not have too many requirements for soil and is relatively drought-tolerant. When planting, avoid soil that is too wet or waterlogged. During the seedling growth period, the environmental temperature is best between 15 and 20 degrees, while during flowering, the suitable temperature is 20 to 25 degrees.

Seedling division

Be careful not to damage the roots when dividing the seedlings, and then plant them. After digging out the seedlings, remove the soil and plant each one separately or break off two or three together. Cut off any old or diseased roots and leave only new roots.

Planting

After harvesting the daylilies, choose the ones with relatively tender green bracts and obvious growth points in the upper or middle part, cut them off 15 cm above and below the nodes, and insert them into the soil in a slight arc shape. Make sure the growth point is exposed outside the soil and cover it with a little fine soil. It is best to plant the cuttings immediately after cutting to avoid water loss. Be sure to water it within two days and it will sprout in about a week.

Fertilization

A few days before flowering, you can spray the leaves with potassium dihydrogen phosphate or borax. Appropriate pruning is needed during the growth process. On one to four branches, leave one to four flower buds. On the branches at the top of the main inflorescence, only leave one or two flower buds. The rest need to be pruned loosely to ensure a concentrated supply of nutrients and promote fruit growth.
