What to do if orchid buds turn black and fall off

Maturation differentiation time

It takes about a year for flower buds of mature orchids to differentiate. Different orchids are cultivated with different nutrients and the flower buds emerge from the ground.

The length of the flowering period varies. After the flower buds of Cymbidium orchid, Cymbidium orchid, Molan orchid, Chunlan, Chunjian orchid, and Lotus-petal orchid emerge from the ground, it takes a longer time for them to grow, form buds, and differentiate. This process takes about half a year. It only takes about a month for four-season orchids and summer orchids to bloom from the emergence of buds to flowering, which is a relatively short period of time.

Control of shedding during vernalization

Regardless of whether there is a vernalization period or not, attention should be paid to the management of water, fertilizer and light. There are many reasons why orchids fall off and die, and most of them are caused by excessive fertilization, excessive watering, and lack of ventilation. When flower buds differentiate, there is no need to fertilize, only top dressing, so it has sufficient nutrition at this time and you need to pay attention to the amount of fertilizer.

During the flowering period, pay attention to the management of fertilizer and water to promote the growth and expansion of flower buds. Moreover, the ambient temperature during the vernalization period is generally high, and regular sterilization and disinfection are required to ensure the normal growth of orchids. After the orchid buds emerge from the ground, you should pay attention to fertilization, watering and lighting, and be careful to prevent the orchid from falling off.

Pay attention to fertilizer and water during the bud period

During the bud formation period of orchids, in autumn and winter, additional fertilizer is needed to keep the flower buds growing and expanding and providing them with sufficient nutrients. The interval between disinfection and fertilization should be kept at about 7-10 days. It should not be too frequent or too concentrated. Keep the plants in sufficient light, otherwise insufficient photosynthesis will cause root rot.

In addition, attention should be paid to the control of water and fertilizer before flowering. When the flower buds are small, pay attention to watering to ensure the quality of the flowers. If you are not participating in an orchid show, let it grow naturally and do not deliberately adjust the daily maintenance of the orchid.

Things to note during the growth period

During the growth period, orchids should be fertilized mainly with nitrogen fertilizer, which can promote the growth of the plants, improve the disease resistance of orchids, and ensure the conditions for the growth of flower buds. Therefore, whether orchids can bloom normally is closely related to the daily management in the early stage.
