What to do if the leaves of the thorn begonia turn yellow

What to do if the leaves of the thorn begonia turn yellow

1. Drain water in time

Reason: The iron balsam itself is relatively drought-resistant, but it is very afraid of waterlogging. If you water too much, it can easily damage the roots, causing the leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: First drain the accumulated water in the potting soil, then take the plant out of the pot, carefully remove the soil at the roots, check for rot, and cut off rotten roots immediately. Then change to dry soil and replant. Before planting, both the plants and the soil must be disinfected to avoid bacterial infection. Water less often to keep the soil in the pot slightly dry.

2. Improve ventilation

Reason: Poor ventilation can lead to poor air quality. The reduced oxygen content inhibits the respiration of the thorn malus and causes the leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: Place the iron holly in a well-ventilated place. Indoors, you can open windows for ventilation on windowsills or balconies.

3. Increase the temperature

Reason: Too low temperature will freeze the iron hibiscus. Or you can put it into dormancy early, at which time the leaves will turn yellow.

Solution: Place the iron hibiscus plant in a place with higher temperature. The temperature cannot be lower than 0℃ during winter and cannot be lower than 15℃ during flowering period. Once the temperature drops due to rainy weather, it should be brought indoors in time to avoid freezing and water accumulation.

4. Dilute Fertilizer

Reason: Too much fertilizer or high concentration of fertilizer will damage the roots of the iron hibiscus, making it difficult for it to absorb water, and the leaves will naturally turn yellow.

Solution: If the fertilizer application time is long, you can add water to dilute the fertilizer. If you have applied fertilizer frequently recently, it is recommended to replace the potting soil and clean and trim the roots to see if there is any rot.
