Why do money tree leaves turn yellow?

Why do money tree leaves turn yellow?

The money tree is native to the tropical (grassland) climate zone in eastern Africa with less rainfall. It prefers a warm, slightly dry, semi-shady environment with little annual temperature change. It is relatively drought-resistant but afraid of cold and strong sunlight. It is afraid of heavy soil and water accumulation in the potting soil. If the potting soil is not permeable, its tubers can easily rot. The soil must be loose, fertile, well-drained, rich in organic matter, and acidic to slightly acidic. The money tree has a strong ability to sprout. After cutting off the thick compound leaves, new leaves will quickly grow from the top of its tuber. Since it grows so fast, why do its leaves turn yellow?

Watering too wet

The leaves of the money tree are fleshy and can store water, so it is drought-resistant, but it should avoid waterlogging. Excessive watering often leads to root rot, which causes yellow leaves.

The air is too dry

The money tree likes a humid environment. The suitable air humidity is about 85% . Too dry leaves will cause yellowing.

The root system has rotted: remove the pot immediately

The plant can be removed from the pot and checked for root rot. If it has, remove the rotten roots and yellow leaves and replant it with sterilized culture soil, or bury its base in clean sand, keep it semi-shaded and control watering, just spray the branches and leaves and surrounding areas frequently to allow it to grow new roots before resuming normal maintenance.

Roots not rotten: move to semi-shaded place

If the roots are not rotten, the plant should be placed in semi-shade. Because it has few leaves, it is not easy to dry out after watering. Watering should be controlled and water should be sprayed on the leaves frequently to allow it to slowly resume normal growth.

When caring for a potted money tree, you should try to create an environment with moist air and dry soil. After the Mid-Autumn Festival, you should reduce watering, or use spraying instead of watering to ensure that the new leaves can survive the winter safely. In winter, special attention should be paid to keeping the soil in the pots dry, but you should still pay attention to spraying water on the leaves and the surrounding environment so that the relative small environment air humidity reaches more than 50% . Otherwise, under low temperature conditions, it is easy to cause the plant roots to rot, the leaves to turn yellow, and even the whole plant to die.
