How to grow juniper

How to grow juniper

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Between 15 and 30 degrees is the most suitable season for its growth. A too hot or stuffy environment is not suitable for it, so try not to exceed 30 degrees. In addition, it is best to take some measures to prevent the cold in winter, especially in very northern areas.

2. Light: Generally speaking, it is a light-loving plant, but its shade tolerance is also very good. During the growing season, try to place it in a location with good sunlight, which will promote its growth. Too much light must be avoided.

3. Watering: Juniper is very drought-resistant, but it is afraid of waterlogging. Therefore, do not give too much water at normal times and avoid water accumulation. Generally speaking, it is very appropriate to replenish water according to the principle of "replenishing water when dry and replenishing water when wet". When it is very hot in summer, you need to give a little more water, and add some in the morning and evening.

4. Fertilization: Fertilization can only be applied in spring and autumn. From March to May, fertilizer can be applied two or three times in total, using cake fertilizer water, etc. In the fall, use it once or twice in total.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: A commonly used method is cutting. Can be done in late fall. Choose branches that are 15 cm long and relatively thick as cuttings. The substrate is prepared with materials such as nutrient soil, river sand, and peat soil. After cuttings, the temperature most conducive to rooting is between 20 and 30 degrees, and not too high, otherwise the wound will easily rot.

2. Repotting: If you want to keep it as a bonsai, you need to pay attention to repotting. However, the interval between repotting can be longer, generally once every three or four years. It is best done in March to April. You only need to replace about half of the soil. Also be sure to cut off some of the aging roots.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: The main one is "rust", which can parasitize over the winter. Although the harm is not particularly serious, it still requires timely prevention and control and spraying of pesticides for treatment.

2. Pests: There are not many pests in normal times. You can take regular precautions and they will generally not appear.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is slightly toxic and the whole plant contains toxins. Can be used as medicinal material.

2. Can it be raised at home? It has a strong purifying effect and can also be used for viewing and placed at home. But just be careful not to eat it by mistake.
