When to repot the black orchid

When to repot the black orchid

1. Time to change pots

The repotting of Mo Lan should be avoided during its flowering period, and is usually done in combination with division. The best time is after the flowers bloom in spring, or in autumn. Pay attention to the weather before you prepare to repot. It should not be humid before and after repotting, so avoid rainy days. The temperature is generally around 25-30℃, so it can recover faster.

2. How to change the pot

1. Stop watering and remove the pot: Before repotting the Mo Lan, stop watering first and let the soil dry, which will make it easier to remove the pot. Before removing the plant from the pot, loosen the soil around the pot and then take it out. Do not pull it out directly to avoid damaging the plant.

2. Preparation of potting soil: The reason for repotting Mo Lan is mainly because the old soil is compacted or lacks nutrients. Therefore, you should choose loose and fertile soil, which is generally made of leaf mold and river sand, mixed in a ratio of 5:1. You can also add a little slag to increase its drainage.

3. Repotting: Repotting is usually done on a sunny day. Place broken tiles at the bottom of the pot, and then cover it with some potting soil. After placing the plant upright, begin filling the pot with soil until the soil covers the pseudobulb. After filling the soil, you can cover it with a layer of gravel to keep the topsoil moist.

4. Subsequent maintenance: If the roots are not repaired when repotting, you can water them directly after repotting. If they are repaired, you will need to wait for a while before watering again. Place it in a cool and ventilated place, and spray water around it to increase the air humidity. Normal maintenance can be carried out after 1-2 weeks.
