Epiphyllum repotting time

Epiphyllum needs to be repotted, which can help it grow quickly, but you have to choose the right time to repot it, considering its growth habits. Epiphyllum grows vigorously in spring and autumn, so it is best to repot it in spring so that the epiphyllum can resume growth faster.

How to repot Epiphyllum

1. Prepare the soil

When repotting the Epiphyllum, you need to prepare suitable potting soil in advance. When choosing the potting soil, because Epiphyllum likes slightly acidic sandy soil that is rich in humus, well-drained, breathable, loose, fertile, you can mix four parts of garden soil, four parts of leaf mold, and two parts of fine sand evenly.

2. Prepare the flower pot

When repotting the Epiphyllum, you should prepare a flower pot with good air permeability in advance, such as a ceramic pot, a clay pot, a purple clay pot, etc. Then put a layer of broken tiles at the bottom of the flower pot to reduce the occurrence of water accumulation, fill it with the prepared soil, and disinfect it at the same time.

3. Remove the pot

When removing the Epiphyllum from the pot, you can loosen the soil, being careful not to damage the roots. Then turn the pot upside down and lift it up so that the entire soil will come out. At this time, you can check the roots, trim off diseased and rotten roots, and disinfect the wounds with potassium permanganate.

4. Basin treatment

After the roots of Epiphyllum are dry, they can be planted in the soil and compacted slightly so that they are in full contact with the soil. If the soil in the pot is relatively dry, you can water it slightly. You only need to keep the soil in the pot slightly moist. After the growth stabilizes, you can begin normal maintenance measures.

Things to note when repotting Epiphyllum

The Epiphyllum should not be repotted frequently, usually once every two years. If it is a seedling, it only needs to be repotted once a year. After repotting the Epiphyllum, do not rush to expose it to the sun. Place it in semi-shade for 3-5 days, control watering, and keep the soil in the pot dry.
