Cultivation methods and maintenance of old purslane piles

How to grow purslane into an old pile

When Purslane is in the seedling stage, it can be thinned out to allow its main branches to grow better and cultivate strong main branches. In addition, frequent ventilation and more sunlight during maintenance can make it grow better and faster and speed up its growth into an old stump.

The price of purslane on the market now varies, generally between 5 and 10 yuan per kilogram, and the price will be affected by the region and season.

Cultivation method of old purslane pile

Purslane is a fast-growing small-leaf potted plant with a pleasant-sounding scientific name called Jade Leaf. Although Purslane grows very fast, it takes a lot of effort to cultivate it into an old stump. It needs to be maintained in a sunny place, provided with sufficient water to keep the soil moist. During the low temperatures in winter, measures to keep warm are needed, and branches and leaves must be pruned in time to cultivate thick main branches.

Pruning of old purslane

Purslane should be thinned out during its seedling stage to promote the growth of main branches. Timely pruning of branches and leaves can reduce nutrient consumption, shape a beautiful plant shape, and cultivate sufficiently thick main branches.

The flowerpot for the old Portulaca oleracea stump should not be too small. A clay pot with a diameter of 35 to 40 cm is most suitable. It has good drainage and air permeability, which is suitable for the growth of roots.

Purslane seeds can germinate a week after sowing. Purslane grows fast and can grow well under temperature conditions of about 20 degrees. Purslane can be planted all year round in most parts of my country. It has good adaptability and the plant has strong disease and pest resistance. There will be almost no problems after sowing.

The aerial roots of old Portulaca oleracea stumps can be used to reduce the frequency of watering, so that the stems can grow longer and stronger and fully complete the transformation into wood.

Precautions for the maintenance of old purslane

1. Temperature

Purslane trees like warmth, and the suitable growth temperature is between 20-25 degrees. The temperature in winter needs to be above 10 degrees. Low temperature will cause leaves to fall. High temperature in summer will cause it to enter a dormant period. Ventilation should be strengthened, and water should be sprayed more often to increase the humidity of the environment.

2. Lighting

Purslane is a sun-loving plant that can receive more than 4 hours of direct sunlight a day. It can also receive sunlight in summer. If the maintenance environment is dark, the leaves of the plant will turn yellow and its ornamental value will be reduced. If it is maintained in a dark place, it can be given 12 hours of artificial light, which can also enable the plant to grow normally.

3. Watering

The purslane tree can store water on its own, so it prefers a relatively dry soil environment. The principle of watering is to alternate between dry and wet, and it is better to be dry than wet. Excessive moisture in the soil will cause the plant's roots to rot. May and June are the period of vigorous growth of the plant, so the potting soil needs to be kept moist. In winter, watering should be restrained to keep the potting soil relatively dry.

4. Fertilization

Purslane trees do not like heavy fertilizers. During the vigorous growth periods in spring and autumn, a thin nitrogen fertilizer can be applied every 15-20 days. Species with stripes on the leaves should have additional phosphorus and potassium fertilizers applied. Pay attention to applying thin fertilizers frequently and avoid applying concentrated fertilizers.
