How to care for Christmas cactus after repotting

How to care for Christmas cactus after repotting

1. Time to change pots

The climatic conditions in different regions are different, and the flowering period will also be different, which will lead to different repotting times. Every plant consumes a lot of nutrients when it blooms, so the pot must not be changed during the flowering period. Otherwise, in the process of the roots re-adapting to the environment, the lack of nutrient supply will cause the petals to wither and even the whole plant to wither. Generally speaking, you can consider repotting as long as it is not when the plant is about to bloom or in the flowering process, that is, outside the flowering period.

2. Post-maintenance

1. Light: It is a plant that does not require too long sunshine time. It likes to grow in semi-shade and is afraid of hot weather. In summer, it should be placed in a ventilated place indoors or on a balcony on the shaded side, and avoid exposure to the sun. After the sun's scorching heat drops after the beginning of autumn, it should be placed in a place where it receives 50% sunlight, that is, in semi-shade. As the weather gets colder, the light exposure should be increased appropriately.

2. Soil and fertilizer: When repotting, you should first spread a layer of sandy soil at the bottom of the pot, and then mix in some base fertilizer to increase the nutrients contained in the soil. You can add a small amount of wood ash to keep the flower soil neutral, and avoid overly acidic or alkaline environments. It likes an environment with sufficient flowers and fertilizers. During the growing season, it is necessary to maintain sufficient flowers and fertilizers, and the number of fertilizations should be reduced in late autumn.

3. Watering: It is an epiphytic cactus that grows in valleys with high water content, so it needs to choose a relatively humid growing environment, but the flower soil cannot be too wet. Generally, water it thoroughly when it is completely dry. Water it every two to three days in the hot season, and avoid watering at noon when the light is strong. When the temperature is low, water the plant once a week, but avoid watering in the evening.

4. Pruning: Because repotting is done after the flowering period, flowering consumes a lot of nutrients, and the stems often become soft and break. In order to avoid this phenomenon, the remaining flowers need to be pruned so that nutrients can be concentrated.
