Speaking of garlic , everyone must be familiar with it. Even many friends use some in their daily cooking. Garlic has many benefits, not only in diet, but also in life, breeding, medicine and other aspects. Garlic has certain uses. Let’s find out together which month is the best for planting garlic? Which month is the best to plant garlic? The planting time of garlic is mainly affected by climate and variety. Generally speaking, garlic planting can be divided into spring sowing and autumn sowing. In northern regions, due to the cold winter climate, garlic is not suitable for planting in autumn, so it is mostly chosen to be sown in spring. Spring sowing usually takes place in April. If the sowing time is too early, the crops may suffer from frost damage; if the sowing time is too late, the yield and quality may be affected. In the Yangtze River Basin and the areas to its south, autumn sowing is generally chosen because the autumn climate is cool and humid, which is conducive to the rapid germination of garlic. Autumn sowing usually starts in mid-to-late September each year. If sowing is too early, the seedlings may grow too vigorously before wintering and consume nutrients, reducing their ability to survive the winter. If sowing is too late, the seedlings may be small, the tissues may be tender, the root system may be weak, and the cold resistance may be low. Preparations before planting garlic 1. Choose garlic seeds Quality requirements: Choose garlic that is fully developed, with large and uniform bulbs, shiny skin, a moderate number of cloves, no disease or damage, and large terminal buds as garlic seeds. 2. Seed drying and soaking Seed drying: Dry the garlic seeds in the sun 2-3 days before sowing to increase the germination speed. Soaking: Soak in clean water for about 12 hours after sun exposure, then dry for sowing. 3. Refrigeration Breaking dormancy: In order to increase the germination rate, the garlic seeds can be placed in a refrigerator at 0°C about 10 days before sowing to promote germination. 4. Soil preparation Loosen the soil: Use a plow or rake to loosen the soil, remove weeds and rocks, and make sure the soil is loose and breathable. Fertilization: Apply appropriate amounts of organic fertilizer and mineral fertilizer to provide sufficient nutrition for garlic. pH adjustment: Garlic prefers neutral or slightly acidic soil, so make appropriate adjustments based on the soil pH. 5. Sowing depth The sowing depth should be controlled at about 5-6cm. The garlic seeds should be planted upwards and the back should be in one direction as much as possible to facilitate the germination and growth of the garlic cloves. In general, it should be noted that the specific time of garlic planting will also be affected by local climate, soil conditions and planting varieties. Therefore, vegetable farmers should choose the most appropriate planting time based on local actual conditions.
