What to do if the bear's paw becomes woody

What to do if the bear's paw becomes woody

What is lignification?

To put it simply, lignification means that the stems become hard like branches, and their original green color turns into gray. Bear's Paw originally has fleshy stems. After becoming woody, the stems will become significantly longer and the whole plant will become more upright.

Woodization has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that it increases the plant's ability to support gravity; the disadvantage is that it loses its original playfulness and cuteness, and becomes a little heavier.

What to do if Bear's Paw becomes lignified

Generally, succulents rarely become woody, but Bear's Paw is an exception. The time when woodiness appears varies in different environments. If you want to grow an old bear's paw stump, the lignification of the stems is the first step towards an old stump. What you need to do is to plant new bear's paws next to the already lignified plants, so that they can rely on each other for growth.

If you just want to raise a cute pet, it is recommended to take the following measures:

1. The premature lignification of Bear's Paw is caused by insufficient nutrients in the plant and poor root growth. Therefore, even if the plant is removed from the pot, cut off the excess roots and woody stems to allow the succulent to grow new roots.

2. Beheading: Cut off the small head of the bear's paw and replant it. The remaining part is basically useless. In the early stages of lignification, side buds may sprout to continue growing; if it is completely lignified, the stems and roots are basically useless.
