What soil is best for growing strawberries?

Strawberry is a plant with a relatively shallow root system, so when choosing soil for it, you must ensure that the soil contains enough organic matter, and then it is best to choose neutral soil with a pH value between 6-7. Although if the soil is slightly acidic or slightly alkaline, it will not affect the normal growth of strawberries, but it cannot be too acidic or alkaline, otherwise it will cause the strawberries to wither and die.

Strawberry soil

Strawberry is a plant that is not tolerant to waterlogging, so soil that is too sticky or waterlogged cannot be used. If the soil is relatively sandy, the strawberry will grow slowly or even fail to bear fruit because of its poor ability to retain water and fertilizer. If sandy soil must be used, more fertilizer must be applied and water should be irrigated frequently. However, in order to save time and effort, soil that has both sufficient water and good aeration is usually selected.

Strawberry soil preparation method

The soil preparation method for strawberries can be made with this formula: 3 parts of garden soil + 3 parts of straw charcoal + 2 parts of coconut soil + 1 part of perlite + 1 part of vermiculite. This can ensure the softness of the soil, greatly improve the survival rate of strawberries, and also keep the soil well drained. The nutrients contained in the soil can also meet the needs of strawberry growth.

Strawberry soil replacement

When changing the soil for strawberries, first take out the strawberries carefully, then check the root system carefully to see if there are diseased roots, dead roots, old roots, etc. If so, proper pruning should be carried out to leave a strong root system, then gently shake off the old soil and comb the roots underneath to make it easier for it to absorb nutrients in the soil. Finally, plant the strawberries back, gently press the soil firmly, and then water it thoroughly.
