When is the best time to plant Chinese cabbage?

Chinese cabbage planting time

There are many varieties of Chinese cabbage, and each variety has strong adaptability. Most of them can be sown all year round. However, by comparison, it is best to sow in spring from March to April, or in winter from August to September. Sowing in these two seasons not only has a high survival rate but also a high yield.

Chinese cabbage growth cycle

The growth cycle of Chinese cabbage is about 55 days, which can be divided into two types according to the development stage: the vegetative growth period and the reproductive growth period. The vegetative growth period is further divided into the germination period, the seedling period, and the rosette period; and the reproductive growth period can be divided into the bud formation period and the flowering and fruiting period. Each growth period is crucial.

Methods and steps for growing Chinese cabbage

1. Planting

The sowing of cabbage is very important. About a week before sowing cabbage, we need to plow the land, because the demand for environmental conditions is the key to harvest. Then spread the seeds evenly on the soil surface and cover it with a layer of fine soil.

2. Seedling cultivation

Chinese cabbage should be planted in fertile and soft soil. The seedling period is about twenty to twenty-five days. When the temperature is relatively low, the growth rate of the seedlings will slow down, and it will take about one and a half months to germinate.
