When is the best time to sow orange seeds?

Orange seed sowing time

Orange seeds are generally sown in spring and autumn. Oranges are generally widely planted in southern my country, usually in spring from February to May and autumn from September to November. The temperature and humidity at this time are suitable for seed germination, the germination rate is high, and the growth rate is faster.

Orange seed planting method and steps

1. Select seeds

Orange seeds can be purchased directly at a seed store, or you can choose oranges that are brightly colored, plump, and full of water, take out the seeds inside, wash them, remove the pulp, and soak them in clean water for 5-7 days, changing the water inside every day. The seeds can fully absorb water, then take out the seeds and carefully peel off the outer skin.

2. Prepare the soil

You need to prepare a flowerpot with holes at the bottom to facilitate drainage and prevent water from accumulating in the soil. The diameter of the flowerpot does not need to be too large, as long as it is suitable for the growth of the plant. Put some small stones underneath, and then mix the soil and an appropriate amount of base fertilizer to ensure both air permeability and sufficient nutrient support.

3. Planting

Sow the processed orange seeds in the flowerpot, with the round part facing downwards and the pointed part facing upwards. The seeds should be about 1.2 cm away from the soil surface. They should not be planted too densely. Control the spacing, compact the soil, and cover it with small stones. After sowing, spray water every day to keep it moist, and place it in a diffuse light environment to wait for rooting.
