Can cypress be propagated by cuttings?

Pines and cypresses can be propagated by cuttings. Generally speaking, the plum rain season is very suitable for cuttings. Of course, you can also choose other seasons with stable climates, such as March and April in early spring. This is exactly the growth period of cypress trees, and the temperature is more suitable for transplanting seedlings. Cutting propagation is more conducive to survival and is also beneficial to later growth. The cuttings will take root faster.

Cypress cutting steps

Treat branches: Choose disease-free branches that are 5 to 8 years old, either woody or semi-woody, and about 10 to 15 cm in height. Cut off the burrs and tender tips below 5 cm on each branch, then tie 30 to 50 branches together at the roots, dip them in medicine, and soak them for 8 hours.

Land preparation and disinfection: Before cutting, the land must be prepared and a bed of soil should be made with a width of 1.2-1.5 cm. A layer of sand about 5 cm thick is spread on it. Water it thoroughly and disinfect it with disinfectant to prevent infection in the later stage.

Insertion into the soil: Do not insert the cuttings too close, the spacing between plants and rows should be about 4-5 cm, and do not insert them too deep, the roots should be 5 cm into the soil. Water thoroughly in time and cover with plastic film to keep it moist. You can insert the bamboo poles at both ends of the bed and then cover them with a layer of plastic film.

Maintenance and management methods of cypress after cutting

Within two months after the cuttings are taken, place them in a diffuse light environment, keep them ventilated and do not cover them. During this period, the soil should be kept moist.

The soil must be kept moist and water must not accumulate, otherwise it will easily rot. Water it three times a day and it will be fine after two months, and after another half a year.

During the cultivation process after cuttings, there may be failed seedlings, but as long as the cuttings have not rotted and turned black for more than two months, it proves that the seedlings are still alive and cannot be pulled out directly.
