When is the best time to sow lisianthus?

Eustoma sowing time

Lisianthus is a perennial plant of the Gentianaceae family, native to the United States. It is generally propagated by sowing and cuttings. It will germinate 12-15 days after sowing and will bloom and bear fruit in 5-6 months.

Lisianthus is generally sown in spring and autumn. If it is grown in potted plants, it can be sown in January-February or September-October. It can be sown as long as the temperature is stable at 22-25℃.

Eustoma sowing method

1. Soil selection

Before sowing lisianthus, you need to prepare the seedling soil. The soil should be slightly alkaline, with the pH value maintained between 6-6.5. Peat soil, vermiculite, and perlite can be used for preparation.

2. Planting

The seeds of lisianthus are very small and can be sown using a toothpick. Do not cover them with soil after sowing. Spray some diluted solution of carbendazim appropriately to increase the adhesion of the seeds. They will germinate in about two weeks.

Key points and techniques for growing lisianthus

1. Platycodon grandiflorum likes warmth. After planting, it is best to control the surrounding temperature at around 15-28℃, and the night temperature should not be lower than 12℃.

2. The growth rate of lisianthus seedlings is very slow. It is necessary to wait until the plant grows 4-5 true leaves before transplanting. Be sure to keep the soil slightly moist.
