How to plant cockscomb and what are the planting time and methods

Cockscomb planting time

Cockscomb is planted in April and May, when the temperature is between 20 and 25 degrees. Generally, the seedlings will emerge in about 7-10 days. When it grows 3-4 true leaves, some weak seedlings and overcrowded seedlings should be removed. When the height reaches 5-6 cm, it should be transplanted with root soil.

Cockscomb planting method

1. Soil: Generally, sandy soil is used. You can mix garden soil and sand and gravel in a ratio of 4:6 to make mixed soil for planting.

2. Suitable temperature and sufficient light . It is best to grow cockscomb at a temperature of 18-26℃, and the daily light duration should be no less than 5 hours.

3. Cockscomb is neither drought-tolerant nor waterlogged, so water it once every three days. Apply some base fertilizer to the soil before planting to ensure the nutrients it needs for healthy growth. Apply top dressing once before flowering, and apply compound fertilizer once.

4. If you want some short plants to branch out and grow fuller, you should pinch off the tops in time. In the normal maintenance process, pruning dead branches and rotten leaves is an essential task.

Precautions for potted cultivation of cockscomb

1. Suitable for planting in sandy soil. Cockscomb is best planted in dry, sunny, fertile, well-drained sandy soil.

2. Pay attention to the length of light during the growth period. Cockscomb must have sufficient sunlight and maintain at least 4 hours of light per day.

3. Ensure sufficient water in summer. Cockscomb consumes a lot of water during its growth process, so it must be watered frequently in the hot summer.

4. Pay attention to controlling the amount of watering. Avoid excessive water during the maintenance of cockscomb, and water it moderately, otherwise it is easy to rot the roots. In case of continuous rainfall, potted flowers should be moved indoors, and ground-planted flowers should pay attention to drainage.
