Can litchi be grown in pots?

Lychees can be grown in pots. As long as the ambient temperature is above 10°C, they can be cultivated as bonsai. However, compared with plants planted in the ground, the fruiting rate of potted plants will be slightly lower.

Potted lychees require a larger flowerpot with a diameter of about 50 cm. The pot should be changed in time as the plant grows. If you want it to bear fruit, it will take about 5-7 years to maintain.

Lychee pot cultivation method

1. Soil

Potted lychees have very high requirements for soil. The soil must be deep, fertile, well-drained, rich in organic matter, and preferably slightly acidic.

2. Pruning

Litchi can be pruned all year round, and the best time is from March to May in spring. Proper pruning is conducive to the growth of new branches, and all old and weak branches can be cut off.

3. Fertilization

During the fruit-bearing period of litchi trees, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied mainly once each season. Fertilizers should be reduced in autumn and winter, otherwise it will affect the growth of the plants.

4. Moisture

During the cultivation of litchi trees, the soil needs to be kept moist at all times. In dry weather, the watering frequency can be appropriately increased. In the rainy season, attention should be paid to drainage to avoid water accumulation.

5. Lighting

During the maintenance period, the litchi potted plants should be placed in a place with sufficient light, so that the plants will grow stronger, but the light should not be too strong, otherwise it will affect the pollination of the plants.
