Cultivation methods and maintenance matters of old osmanthus piles

How to grow osmanthus into an old pile

The time for transplanting osmanthus should not be too early, otherwise it will lose water quickly and the root system will be easily damaged, causing leaves to fall or even die. Most osmanthus trees transplanted from the south to the north find it difficult to adapt to the local climate and are easily frozen to death. The best time for transplanting is mid-November. Choose osmanthus trees with full tree shape, lush branches and leaves, no diseases and pests, and easy to dig and lift.

Cultivation method of old osmanthus pile

Osmanthus can be planted in a clay pot, which needs to have loose, fertile, well-drained soil added to it. It should be placed in a sunny place for maintenance. In spring, it should be fertilized every 10 days and pruned in time to remove the overgrown branches and old branches to promote the concentration of nutrients to bloom more beautiful osmanthus. In winter, care should be taken not to break the dormancy period of osmanthus.

Pruning old osmanthus stump

If the osmanthus is not growing well, you can prune it slightly, remove the weak and dead branches, and leave the vigorously growing branches to promote nutrient concentration. In summer, you can shorten the overgrown branches to ensure the perfect shape of the whole plant.

Osmanthus fragrans old pile sprouts

Osmanthus flowers sprout leaves three times a year, in spring and autumn, and almost no sprouts in between. However, if it is an osmanthus tree grown from cuttings, it will generally sprout 30-60 days after being buried in the soil. If it takes longer, it may take three months.

Precautions for the maintenance of old osmanthus piles

Osmanthus prefers liquid organic fertilizer. After germination in spring, apply decomposed thin cake fertilizer or pig manure every 10-15 days. Reduce the number of fertilization in summer, and mainly apply thin compound organic fertilizer. Before the flower buds sprout, apply liquid fertilizer mainly composed of phosphorus fertilizer, which can promote it to bloom more beautiful flowers.

Osmanthus will enter a dormant period in winter and needs to be provided with a temperature of 0-5 degrees. If it is maintained indoors, do not turn on the heating too high, otherwise it will break the dormant period of osmanthus, consume a lot of nutrients, and the branches and leaves will not grow as lush next year.
