Carrot growing environment and conditions

Carrot is a common vegetable crop with strong adaptability, simple cultivation and is widely grown. Carrot is most widely distributed in Asia, Europe and America, and is distributed throughout China.

Carrot Growing Conditions

Carrots are light-loving plants, especially during the period when the fleshy roots are enlarged. They need to be provided with sufficient light, otherwise the yield will be reduced and the quality will be affected. They like a humid environment and the soil must be kept moist, especially during the germination period. They cannot lack water. It is best to plant them in deep, fertile, well-drained loam or sandy loam.

Carrot growing temperature

The temperature for carrot seed germination is between 20-25 degrees, and the time required is about 5 days. The suitable growth temperature for stems and leaves is between 23-25 degrees. The suitable temperature for taproot expansion period is 13-18 degrees. Seedlings can withstand high temperatures above 27 degrees.

The growth process of carrots

Plant carrot seeds in deep sandy loam, cover with 1 cm of fine soil, and water appropriately. When the seedlings emerge and the leaves grow to 5-6 pieces, they need to be thinned out and transplanted, keeping a distance of 10-12 cm. After that, the stems will continue to grow and the leaves will become more and more. During this period, keep the soil moist and apply compound fertilizer 2-3 times.

Carrot planting time and method

The best time to plant carrots is from July to August, but in some areas the planting time is a little earlier, like the Northeast, where sowing begins in June.

Before planting carrots, you need to choose suitable land. Carrots are underground crops that bear fruit, so you need to choose land with loose, fertile, and well-drained soil. Remove debris and weeds from the field, level the land, fine the soil, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and then dry it in the sun for a few days before sowing.

Before sowing carrots, you need to make ridges on the land and then sow the seeds on it. You can cover the surface with rapeseed stalks or corn stalks before sowing. The sowing time can be before or after the rain, which is conducive to seed germination.
