How to propagate roses and what to pay attention to

Rose propagation method

There are many ways to propagate roses, including cuttings, division, grafting, etc., but division and cuttings are generally the main methods. Seeds can also be propagated, but very slowly.

Rose breeding time

The commonly used method of rose propagation is cuttings, which are generally better in spring and autumn. Spring cuttings are best done in early spring with a high success rate. Cuttings in late autumn and early winter have a higher success rate than in spring.

Rose propagation method

Rose division propagation

First, carefully remove the vigorously growing roses from the soil, wash the roots, cut the roots from the stems, soak them in rooting water, and then plant them in the soil.

Rose cutting propagation

Prepare loose and fertile soil, disinfect it with potassium permanganate, select thick rose branches, about 20 cm long, retain a pair of leaves, cut the bottom into an oblique cut, and soak it in rooting water. Take it out and dry it, then insert it into the soil at a depth of about 10 cm. Place it in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance.

Rose seed propagation

Choose plump rose seeds, soak them in warm water, and evenly spread them on the soil surface after soaking. Immediately cover with a thin layer of soil, and spray water about 3 to 5 cm to make the seeds and soil completely moist. They will germinate in about a week.

Rose leaf cuttings

The process of rose leaf insertion is simple. First, put the prepared soil into the pot and level the soil surface. At the same time, water the soil to make sure it has a certain amount of moisture. Place the rose leaves neatly on the soil surface. Of course, you can also use the oblique insertion method. After all the leaves are inserted, place the flower pot in a ventilated and cool place.

Rose propagation precautions

When propagating roses, whether they are planted in the ground or in pots, they must be placed in a sunny place and receive more than 4 hours of direct sunlight every day. Do not place them in places with insufficient light indoors for a long time. In winter, they must be brought indoors and placed in a sunny place. Pay attention to maintaining the growth temperature at 12-28℃.
