How to propagate short-leaf Clivia

How to propagate short-leaf Clivia

1. Division propagation

1. Time: It can be divided after it grows for about two years. It can be done in all seasons, but it is most suitable from February to May in spring and from September to November in autumn.

2. Method: Some sub-plants will grow at the base of the mother plant. When their leaves grow to 10-15 cm, use a sharp blade to cut them off from the mother plant along with the roots and plant them in flower soil with good air permeability. Spread clean river sand around its roots and place it in a place with softer light. Cover the plant with a transparent bag and spray water on it from time to time to keep the soil at 50% moisture. New roots will grow in about 20-25 days.

3. Management of the mother plant: After division, it is recommended to apply wood ash on the wound of the mother plant, and reduce the amount of watering and increase the amount of fertilizer in the next month to help it recover.

2. Seed propagation

1. Time: Sowing can be carried out all year round, mainly determined by the time of seed harvesting. It is best to sow the seeds immediately after harvesting them, because the seeds have not yet dried up and the seedlings will emerge quickly.

2. Method: Place the seeds with the bulged side facing up evenly on the surface of humus soil, and cover them with a layer of sand, the thickness of which should be twice the diameter of the seeds. Then spray the loam wet and cover it with a layer of transparent glass to maintain humidity. After that, place it in a ventilated and cool place, water it appropriately, keep the soil slightly moist, and wait for it to germinate.
