How to water dianthus

How to water dianthus

Watering method

When watering dianthus, you should follow the principle of "don't water unless the soil is dry, and prefer dry to wet". Keep the soil in the pot dry and avoid water accumulation. There are two particularly important watering times after a year. One is before winter when you need to water the plant with antifreeze water. Water the plant thoroughly without water accumulation. The dianthus basically relies on this heavy watering to survive the winter. Throughout the winter, you can water the plant appropriately but it does not need to be watered thoroughly. The second time is to water the dianthus in spring to allow it to resume growth. The moisture level should be controlled during these two waterings and should be close to the room temperature.

How often to water

This is a problem that most people are troubled by. They don't have much time, and if they check it often, it may dry up accidentally. Therefore, when watering, you should understand the approximate cycle when the plants dry out. Dianthus is usually watered once every 10 days. You can get a rough idea of the watering cycle by watering it a few times according to the environment in your home.

Watering amount

Season: In early summer, the temperature gradually rises, the plants resume growth, and the water demand is relatively high, so the amount of watering also increases accordingly. Basically, when the temperature is high, you should water the plant once in the morning and once in the evening, water the roots in the morning and spray the leaves in the evening. The ideal amount of water is one cup of water. In early autumn, you should start to reduce the amount of water and combine two waterings into one depending on the situation. Basically no watering in winter.

Flower pot size: For large pots, water less for small seedlings; for small pots, water more; for shallow pots, water more; for deep pots, water less; medium-sized pots generally require one and a half cups of water to be thoroughly watered. Try an experiment when watering. Find a cup you normally use to drink water. When you see water flowing out from the bottom of the pot, you will know how much water to water.

Watering precautions

When watering, do not water directly from top to bottom, especially do not water the flowers. The watering time is also strictly limited. It is best to water the roots in the morning and the leaves in the evening.
