What to do with Phalaenopsis orchids after they have finished blooming

What to do with Phalaenopsis orchids after they have finished blooming

1. Suitable for pruning

If you want the plant to bloom a second time in the same year, you can prune the flower stem from the fourth or fifth node from the base. This method may make the plant bloom again in two or three months, but it consumes more nutrients. If you want it to bloom again in the second year, you can cut it directly from the base to allow it to rest to the maximum extent, which will be beneficial for flowering next year.

2. Pay attention to heat preservation

After the flowering period, the temperature may still be relatively low, so it is necessary to keep warm. You can use tools such as plastic film to cover the flower pot.

3. Repotting

After flowering, you can change the pot once. The substrate can be mixed with river sand, leaf mold and vermiculite in a ratio of 1:1:1.

4. Stay hydrated

After flowering, sufficient water must be provided. If it is before May 1st, water it once a week, and then once every four to five days. When the temperature is very high, spraying is also needed. If the water used is alkaline, then some ferrous sulfate needs to be used regularly.

5. Apply fertilizer appropriately

If you want it to bloom a second time in the same year, you can use some fertilizer once a week, not too much. After the flower buds are formed, stop fertilizing.
