How to water a cactus

How to water a cactus

1. Does it need water?

Some friends think that cactus can live in the desert, so it does not need water, and therefore they don’t pay much attention to watering. In fact, this is not very scientific. The fact that it can survive in the desert does show that it has very strong adaptability, but for the cacti we usually grow, we still need to water them if we want them to grow well. Also, the watering method varies depending on the variety.

2. How to water

(1) Low temperature and drought dormancy type: Plants of this variety hibernate in winter. Therefore, water control should be strictly enforced in winter. When spring arrives, you need to slowly increase the amount of watering. At the end of spring and the beginning of summer, it reaches its vigorous growth stage, and the amount and frequency of watering should be further increased. It should be reduced appropriately in midsummer. The growth is also more vigorous in autumn, so more water is needed.

(2) High temperature and drought dormancy type: This variety is just the opposite of the first type. It dormants in summer. Therefore, the amount of watering in summer must not be too much, otherwise it will easily rot. In addition to reducing the amount of water, shading and increased ventilation are also required. Humidity also needs to be controlled by taking measures such as spraying water.

(3) Epiphytic type: The dormant period of this variety is just after flowering. Do not water too much during this stage. It will return to normal afterwards, but not too much, otherwise it will easily grow too long. In winter, if the temperature is above 15 degrees, you can water it normally.
