How to Propagate Holly

sowing

Seed harvesting and processing: Seeds can be collected after the fruits turn red around November. After that, soak the fruit in clean water for eight to twelve hours, mince the pulp, take out the seeds, wash and dry them, and then store them in sand.

Treatment before sowing: After selecting the sowing site, the land should be deeply plowed first, and the surrounding weeds, straw and other debris should be cleared or burned.

Sowing and post-processing: We generally choose to sow in the winter of the second year after collecting seeds. Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the soil and then cover with a layer of loose soil. Then, it is necessary to control various factors. For example, to ensure the humidity, you can cover it with straw and water it sufficiently. Around April, when the seeds germinate, you can remove the straw covering them.

cutting

Here we mainly introduce the method of hardwood cuttings. This method is generally done in winter when the leaves fall behind.

The first step is to prepare the substrate. We use perlite, vermiculite, peat and other water-permeable substrates. They are mixed in a ratio of five to two to three, and the thickness should be about seven or eight centimeters. Then comes the process of cuttings, with the spacing controlled at about three centimeters. When grafting, be careful not to go too deep, it is better to be shallow. After the cuttings are completed, they need to be watered and covered with plastic film or arch shed. In addition, be sure to check the moisture content regularly. If it is dry, you need to replenish water in time.
