How to propagate Dendrobium officinale

How to propagate Dendrobium officinale

Division

This method is relatively simple and quick. First, we choose some plants that grow too compactly, wait until their flowers fade, take them out of the soil, remove the old roots, and then cut them from the base of the clustered stems. When cutting, be sure not to injure the roots, otherwise they will not survive. Then, form a group with the mother plant as the first one, and then cut off some old roots for the second time. Once the above steps have been completed, you can place the new sprouts close to the center of the pot, add new substrate and compact it.

Sprouting

When dividing buds, we don't just choose any object. Generally, we have to look for plants that have been potted for more than 3 years, or we can choose small plants at the top of old plants and cut buds from them separately. Generally, you start cutting from the top of the mother plant downwards, then sprinkle some wood ash on the cut to treat it, and then transplant the seedlings into the pot. In addition, when planting, do not plant it too deep. It will generally start to bloom after 2 years.

Cuttings

This method of propagation usually starts at the same time as repotting and division. The plant itself has many stems, and there are many nodes on these stems. Small buds can grow on the nodes, so cuttings are the best way to do it.

First, select some healthy cuttings that have not yet flowered, and then cut them into several sections. Remember to keep 2 to 3 nodes on each section. Similarly, sprinkle some wood ash on the cut. Then you can insert the small sections into the prepared substrate one by one, leaving half of them exposed outside, and place them in a semi-shaded and humid place for maintenance. Another thing to note is that after the cuttings are planted, there is no need to water them within a week, but you can spray them with spray frequently to effectively retain moisture. Basically after 1 to 2 months, new buds will grow on its nodes, and then it will become a new plant, and you can put it in a pot.
