Fertilization tips for hydrangea

How to fertilize hydrangea

Hydrangea is a flower that likes fertilizer, and during its growth period, there must be sufficient fertilizer.

When fertilizing hydrangeas, organic fertilizer is generally used as the main fertilizer, and some compound fertilizer can also be used. During the growth period of hydrangea, you can apply decomposed thin fertilizer water once every half a month. During this period, fertilizer application is mainly nitrogen fertilizer, such as bean cake, compound fertilizer, human and animal feces, etc., can be used.

In order for hydrangea to grow healthily, it is sometimes necessary to apply some foliar fertilizer to it, such as spraying some urea or ferrous sulfate solution.

When the hydrangea blooms, in order to make it bloom more beautiful flowers, you can apply more phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer during the differentiation period of flower buds and the formation period of flower buds, or you can spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate on the leaves. When the flowers are about to bloom, you need to stop fertilizing.

Precautions for fertilizing hydrangea

When applying fertilizer, there are two main aspects to pay attention to.

First, fertilization needs to be based on the climate. In the hot summer, do not use cake fertilizer or other fertilizers on hydrangeas, because fertilization at this time can easily cause root burn of hydrangeas and cause diseases and insect pests.

Second, when hydrangeas bloom, the color of the flowers will be affected by the pH value of the soil. Generally, when the soil is acidic, the flowers will turn blue, and when the soil is alkaline, the flowers will turn red. If you want blue flowers, you can apply some aluminum sulfate during the flowering period of hydrangea. If you want red flowers, you can add some lime to the soil.
