How to propagate the succulent Huangli

How to propagate the succulent Huangli

Leaf cuttings

Leaf cuttings are the simplest method of propagation of Huangli.

Just spread the complete, mature leaves flat on the sand, with the leaf surface facing up and the back facing down, without covering them with soil, and then place them in a cool place. After about 10 days, many new roots and leaf clusters will grow from the base of the leaves, and then the roots will be buried in the soil.

After rooting and sprouting, no treatment is needed. Just expose it to more sunlight, water and fertilize it appropriately, and a healthy new plant will gradually grow. During the growth process, if black rot occurs on the mother leaves, they should be removed immediately.

Branch cuttings

Branch cuttings are a relatively simple method of propagating Huangli.

Branch cuttings can be taken from suckers or top branches. Cut cuttings from healthy plants, cut off the lower leaves, dry the wounds in a cool place, and then insert them directly into the soil. Be careful not to make the soil for cuttings too wet, otherwise it will easily cause the cut ends to turn yellow and rot. The cuttings will take root in about 20 days, and can be potted when the roots grow to 2 to 3 cm.

Division

Division is a more difficult method of propagation of Huangli.

It is best to divide the plants in spring, but before dividing, you must ensure that the mother plant is in a condition for division, has grown multiple heads, or has sprouted side buds at the base.

When repotting in spring, remove the Huangli from the pot and trim the roots appropriately. Remove some of the old soil, separate the plants according to their shapes, and plant them in separate pots. After planting, place it in a cool place for 1 to 2 weeks to allow it to acclimate to the pot. After it grows normally, move it to the sun for maintenance. During the operation, be careful not to damage the root system. If you accidentally knock off a leaf, it’s okay, just put it aside and do the leaf insertion.
