What to do with flowers at home when you are away from home

Shorter watering methods

If you are going to be outside for a short time, you can water all the potted flowers sufficiently and place them in a shady and windless place to reduce water evaporation. You can also spread a layer of damp sawdust on the surface of the potting soil and cover it with a piece of plastic film to provide long-term moisturizing.

How to water when you are away for more than ten days

If you are going to be away for more than ten days, you can place the flower pot in a larger shallow pot, fill the area around the pot with wet sand, and pour a little water into the sand to keep the flower pot in a humid environment. This method can slow down the evaporation of moisture in the soil in the flowerpot, preventing the flowers from drying out and damaging them for a long time. If you need the soil in the pot to be moisturized for a longer time, you can place a basin of water next to the flower pot and slightly higher than the flower pot. Soak a long and thick cloth strip in the water, dip one end in the basin of water, and press the other end under the flower pot. This will allow water to slowly pass through the cloth strip and seep into the bottom of the flower pot to moisten the soil. This can keep the soil moist for a long time and prevent it from drying out.

How to water when you are away for several months

If the business trip lasts for more than one month, just make the cloth belt wider and thicker, or use a double layer of cloth belt. For foliage plants that like high temperatures, use a watertight water tank or metal box that is higher than the flower pot, put a shallow layer of water in the box, place the flower pot in the box, put a wooden board at the bottom of the pot, level with the water surface, and make the bottom of the pot also level with the water surface. This method can keep foliage plants that prefer high humidity, such as Syngonium, Arrowroot, Variegated Caladium, Red and White Net Grass, Ornamental Begonia and various ferns, moisturized for a longer period of time and prevent them from being damaged by dryness.
