1. Aliases

Its aliases include golden millet, sweet olive, osmanthus, and rock osmanthus. It is a plant of the genus Oleaceae. There are many varieties of it, among which four are representative, namely laurel, red osmanthus, golden osmanthus, and silver osmanthus. It can be planted on both sides of the road. It not only greens the environment, but also has a strong fragrance when it blooms. It can be regarded as a tree species that combines beautification, greening and fragrance. Especially in autumn, the flowers are filled with fragrance and are deeply loved by people. They are regarded as traditional famous flowers.

2. Appearance

It is an evergreen shrub or tree, usually between 3 and 5 meters tall, and the tallest can reach 18 meters. The leaves are leathery, oblong or elliptical in shape, pointed at the tip, broadly cuneate at the base, and hairless on both sides. Even in the coldest winter, the leaves will not wither.

When the flowers bloom, they are in cymes, growing in the leaf axils, with multiple flowers in each axil. The flowers are relatively small, and the bracts are broadly ovate in shape. The flowers are small but very fragrant. The common flower colors are yellow-white, yellow, light yellow or orange-red. The flowering period is usually in autumn, specifically between September and early October. However, it has many varieties, and the leaf and flower colors of different varieties are also different. Judging from the overall color, the flower color of Osmanthus fragrans is the darkest, which is orange-red.
