Cultivation methods and precautions of golden safflower

Cultivation methods and precautions of golden safflower

1. Lighting

It likes light by nature. If you keep it at home, you can put it in a brighter place near the window. Although it likes light by nature, you must avoid direct sunlight that is too strong. When growing safflower in a greenhouse, pay attention to providing half shade in spring, summer and autumn. There is no need for shade in winter.

2. Temperature

Suitable temperature is more conducive to the growth of saffron. Golden safflower likes high temperatures but is not cold-resistant. An environment of 18 to 40 degrees Celsius is most suitable for saffron. However, please note that the indoor temperature in winter cannot be lower than 15 degrees Celsius, otherwise the safflower will go into dormancy, the leaves will gradually turn yellow, and finally fall off and stop growing. Therefore, special rest should be taken in winter to keep the safflower warm.

3. Watering

Make sure the soil in the pot is sufficiently moist throughout the growth process, but remember not to water it too much to cause waterlogging. Otherwise it will easily lead to root rot. But the saffron should not be allowed to be too dry. In winter, the safflower begins to dormant, so you should reduce the frequency of watering. When you find that the surface layer of soil in the pot starts to dry out about one centimeter deep, it means you need to water it, and you must water it thoroughly. The most important thing to note when watering is not to get water on the leaves, as this can easily cause leaf rot. This is also a point that many people rarely pay attention to when growing flowers.

4. Soil

The soil can be made of potting soil or leaf mold with a certain amount of perlite or river sand and a certain amount of organic fertilizer. Note that the flower soil must have good permeability to prevent excessive water accumulation and cause rot of the roots of the safflower.

5. Fertilization

When the plant is in its golden growth period, it needs to be applied with 20% cake fertilizer water once in a while. From the budding to the flowering process, potassium dihydrogen phosphate should be applied once a week, which will make the plant bloom better.
