The scientific name of the Thousand Birds Flower is Peach Blossom. There are mainly three varieties: broad-fruited mountain peach grass, small-flowered mountain peach grass and purple-leaved Thousand Birds Flower.

The flowers of the broad-fruited mountain peach grass open in the evening and the flowering period is from May to July. The petals of the broad-fruited mountain peach grass are white to pink, the filaments are white, and the anthers are yellow. The seeds of the broad-fruited mountain peach grass are oblong-ovate, light brown, and usually mature one by one.

The small-flowered mountain peach grass is native to North America and is one of the three major malignant weeds. It was introduced and cultivated in Henan Province in the 1950s, causing harm to farmland or lawns. Small-flowered mountain peach grass is a biennial herb with a taproot diameter of up to 2 cm. The stem is erect and unbranched, and the leaves are generally narrowly elliptic, oblong-ovate, and sometimes diamond-ovate. The petals are white or red, and the anthers are yellow and oblong. Self-fertilized seeds consist of 4 or 3 seeds (the ovules in one chamber are undeveloped), which are egg-shaped and reddish brown.

The flowering period is July-August, and the fruiting period is August-September.
