How to cultivate red lotus

How to cultivate red lotus

1. Soil

Red lotus likes soil with good drainage and ventilation, which can be mixed with coal slag, peat soil and a small amount of perlite.

2. Watering

Red lotus is particularly afraid of waterlogging and should be avoided from long-term rain. When the temperature drops below 5℃ in winter, water should be slowly cut off. Watering should be restrained during the high temperatures in summer. Although the temperature is very high in summer, the red lotus is in a dormant period and does not require much water. If there is a serious water shortage, watering is required.

3. Temperature

It can withstand indoor temperatures of around -4°C in winter. If the temperature drops, the top growth points of the leaves will be frostbitten. When the temperature is high in summer, the entire plant grows slowly or completely stops growing. Place the red lotus in a well-ventilated place and avoid direct sunlight.

4. Lighting

Red lotus likes a growing environment with plenty of sunlight, tolerates partial shade, and avoids hot and humid conditions. It has the habit of growing in cool seasons. When there is insufficient light, the leaves of the entire plant will grow too long and the red color of the leaf edges will gradually fade. When there is sufficient sunlight, the plant will be short and strong, and the leaves will be arranged compactly.

5. Fertilization

During the growing season, fertilizer should be applied every 20 days or so, and thin fertilizer is enough. Avoid applying too much fertilizer, which will cause the branches and leaves to grow too long, and may also burn the roots, causing root rot and leaf fall.
