Wang Zhaojun: Camellia

Zhaojun Goes to the Frontier-Falling Goose

Wang Zhaojun of the Han Dynasty was a beauty with both talent and beauty. In order to appease the Northern Huns, Emperor Yuan of Han chose her to marry the Chanyu. On her way far away from her homeland, Wang Zhaojun saw the geese flying in the distance, which aroused her endless homesickness. She plucked the strings of her zither and played a tragic farewell song. When the flying geese heard the music, they forgot to flap their wings and fell to the ground. Wang Zhaojun was therefore given the beautiful name "Falling Goose".

November Flower Goddess

The representative flower of November is camellia, and there are many stories about the flower god of camellia. Some say it was Yang Guifei, some say it was Bai Juyi, some say it was Tang Xianzu of the Ming Dynasty, Shi Chong, the tycoon of the Jin Dynasty, and some say it was Wang Zhaojun. Camellia is cold-resistant and can still emit fragrance even when the weather is freezing. It is said that when Wang Zhaojun married the Huns, she brought a branch of red camellia in addition to the pipa: she used the pipa to express her sad and resentful feelings, and used the camellia's fearlessness of frost and snow to show her steadfast moral integrity. Therefore, later generations revered Wang Zhaojun as the goddess of camellia.

Xi Shi: Lotus, Azalea

Xi Shi Washing Silk-Sinking Fish

Xi Shi, whose real name was Yi Guang, was a native of Yue during the Spring and Autumn Period. She is naturally beautiful, with a rosy face. According to legend, Xi Shi was washing sand by the river. The clear, transparent water reflected her beautiful figure. The fish in the water forgot to swim and slowly sank to the bottom. Therefore, Xi Shi got the nickname "Sinking Fish".

June Flower Goddess Representative

It is said that the June lotus god is the peerless beauty Xi Shi. It is said that Xi Shi once left traces of picking lotus in Jinfanjing, Suzhou. Some people also say that after Xi Shi helped Yue defeat Wu, the King of Yue took Xi Shi back to Yue. However, the Queen was very jealous of Xi Shi's beauty, so she captured Xi Shi and took her to the river, tied her to a huge rock and sank her to the bottom of the river. Ordinary people did not believe that Xi Shi would die. Legend has it that she became the goddess of lotus and lived on a small island. Every year during the Lotus Picking Festival, she could be seen among the girls picking lotus by the lake.

The most beautiful flower - Azalea

Because Xi Shi possessed unparalleled beauty and charm, later generations often used Xi Shi as a synonym for beauty. Bai Juyi once praised the azalea: "I casually picked two branches and held them in my hands. Upon closer inspection, they do not seem to exist in this world. Among flowers, this one is Xi Shi, while hibiscus and peony are both Mei Mu." Therefore, the azalea has earned the reputation of being the Xi Shi among flowers.

There is a variety of azalea called "Xi Shi Flower". The maximum diameter of the flower is about 6 cm, and the corolla is white to light pink. It is the prettiest among flowers, so it is called "Xi Shi Flower" and sometimes also called "Xi Shi Azalea".

Diao Chan: Peach Blossom

Diao Chan worships the moon-closed moon

One night, when Diao Chan was worshiping the moon in the garden, a breeze suddenly blew and a floating cloud covered the bright moon. This scene happened to be seen by Wang Yun. In order to publicize how beautiful his daughter was, Wang Yun told everyone that his daughter was as beautiful as the moon. The moon was so impressed by her beauty that it hid behind the clouds and dared not compete with her. Therefore, Diao Chan enjoys the reputation of "beauty that can block the moon".

April Flower Goddess

Diao Chan is as beautiful as the bright moon and is breathtakingly beautiful. It is said that three years before Diao Chan was born, the peach and apricot trees in the village stopped blooming, and to this day, peach and apricot trees still find it difficult to survive.

Yang Yuhuan: Apricot Blossom

The Drunken Concubine - Shame on the Flower

Yang Yuhuan, a beautiful Tang Dynasty woman whose "smile is so charming that all the beauties in the harem pale in comparison", has an inextricable bond with flowers. According to legend, one day, Yang Yuhuan went to the garden to enjoy the flowers and relax. When her jade fingers touched the flowers, the petals immediately shrank and the green leaves curled up and drooped. It turned out that what Yang Guifei touched was mimosa. This scene was seen by a palace maid. The palace maids told others that Yang Guifei was so beautiful that she could compete with the flowers, and the flowers all lowered their heads in shame. Emperor Minghuang of Tang therefore praised her for her beauty that was "shy of flowers" and called her an unrivaled beauty.

Representative of the February Flower God

It is said that the goddess of apricot blossoms in February is Yang Yuhuan. Although Yang Guifei was the most favored concubine of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, the Mawei Rebellion forced Emperor Xuanzong to execute her. After the rebellion was quelled, when Emperor Xuanzong of Tang sent people to retrieve the remains and rebury them, he saw a field of snow-white apricot blossoms dancing in the wind at Mawei Slope. Therefore, later generations revered Yang Guifei as the goddess of apricot blossoms in February.
