1. Branch selection

Choose strong branches. The quality of the branches determines whether the plant can grow healthily. For hydroponic gardenias, choose thick main branches and keep more than 3 small branches on each main trunk. Such branches are easier to survive in hydroponics and have a beautiful plant shape.

2. Processing

There may be insect eggs on the branches of gardenia. In order to avoid insects during hydroponics, rinse the branches with clean water before hydroponics, and be careful not to damage the epidermis. After cleaning, cut off the branches and leaves that are too dense and the leaves that have been bitten by insects. If the leaves are large, cut them in half horizontally to prevent the water from evaporating quickly and causing the gardenia to wilt.

3. Hydroponics

Cut the processed branches into horse ear shape, soak them in 0.1% potassium permanganate solution for 4-6 hours, take them out and insert them into clean water, with the length of the cuttings in the water being 1/3 of the total length.

4. Maintenance

It is best to choose a dark container in the early stage of hydroponic gardenia, and change the water every 1 to 2 days. After the roots have taken root, you can change to a transparent container. Or you can choose to drill some small holes in the foam board, insert the branches into them, and place the foam on the water to float.

When the roots grow to 1.5~2 cm and there are 6~7 roots on a single plant, you can choose to move it into a pot or plant it in the ground.

Precautions

When handling gardenia branches, the cut should be flat, placed in a ventilated place for 1 to 2 days, and disinfected before use.

It usually takes about 2 weeks for hydroponics to take root, but it varies from variety to variety, so be patient.

During the hydroponic process, the plants in dark containers can be lifted up for observation. If root rot occurs, remove it immediately.

During the hydroponic process, the leaves may turn yellow, but you don't need to pay attention to it as it will not hinder the rooting of the branches. When transplanting, just cut off the yellowing leaves.
