The correct way to water succulents

Succulent plants are potted plants that many people like to grow. They are small and do not take up much space. When grown, they are very beautiful and have high ornamental value. When growing succulents, you must pay attention to watering. Here are the correct ways to water succulents.

1. Water thoroughly

The most common way of watering is to pour water evenly on the soil. When water flows at the bottom of the pot, it means it is watered thoroughly. This way of watering can allow the roots to absorb water better. If you only water halfway, it is very likely that there will be water only on the surface, while the roots will not absorb the water. After watering in this way, the succulents will become temporarily stuffy, so this method should not be used for watering in rainy weather.

2. Slide the basin edge method

This method should be the most common way of watering, throughout the entire process of succulent growth. Since most succulents are small in size, it is not advisable to irrigate them directly with large amounts of water. Usually, you need to prepare a pointed-mouthed pot and slowly water them along the edge of the pot in circles. You must ensure that if you do water, you do not water them at all, and if you do water them, you water them thoroughly. We need to find a way to determine whether succulents are really lacking water. We can prepare a toothpick, insert it into the soil, pull it out and observe the condition of the toothpick. If the soil is moist, it means there is no lack of water. Otherwise, watering is needed.

3. Immersion basin method

Find a container or bucket filled with water, put the succulent plant pot in it, let the water replenish the soil moisture from the bottom up, and take it out when you see the surface of the potting soil is moist. For seedlings or newly potted succulents in the root growth stage, there is no need to soak them, just put them in water for 30 seconds. This will keep the bottom soil moist and help induce new roots to sprout.

4. Spray watering

In addition to the roots of succulents being able to absorb water, the leaves also have this function, so you can water the plants by spraying them. This method is more of an auxiliary method and needs to be used in combination with the above two methods to achieve the best results. The spray method is most commonly used in summer and in winter when the room is heated. In summer, you can cool down by spraying water. However, be careful not to allow water to accumulate on the leaves when spraying, especially for some compact rosette-shaped succulents. If there is heating indoors in winter, the air will be drier. You can spray water to reduce the rate of leaf consumption and achieve the effect of watering.

5. Spray the soil

Spraying the soil is the safest way to water. In fact, it imitates the native environment of succulents. Although there is not much precipitation, the soil will be wetted by dew every morning. Although the water provided each time is not much, if you spray water every day, it is like dew, allowing the roots of succulents to drink water every day, ensuring sufficient water, and the succulents will naturally grow stronger.
